Oudekerk aan de Amstel

Aug 11, 2009 | 0 replies | Leave a reply
Oudekerk aan de Amstel is the culinary Hamptons of Amsterdam, with a variety of restaurants that will impress your in laws, business guests, and even your kids! All restaurants have a terrace and most of them are set right on the beautiful river Amstel.

How to get there: Biking, Boating and Swimming
The best way to get to Oudekerk is by boat (1 hour boat ride) or by bike, alongside the Amstel. The bike ride is only 45 minutes long and has beautiful panoramas of the Dutch landscape. If you bike/sail 10 minutes further south of Oudekerk, you can jump in the Amstel for a swim. The water is quite clean and will be refreshing on a summer’s day!

Ron Blauw - Culinary Artist Ron Blauw: one of the best restaurants in The Netherlands, where the dishes are presentated like art works that deserve to be hung in the Rijksmuseum! Exceptionally excellent food combinations that cannot be described. This restaurant is heaven for culinary lovers (and those with a good credit card). Ron Blauw, Kerkstraat 56 (not set along the Amstel)

Loetje aan de Amstel - Best Beef
This is Dutch at its best: no nonsense yet friendly enough service, no-nonsense yet perfectly prepared beef and no nonsense fries. Loetje serves the best beef in town (also at Loetje in Amsterdam), and that what one should have here. Other dishes are not so impressive. It can get busy, yet be patient. On sunny days, try the terrace where you can watch all the boats sailing by. Loetje aan de Amstel, Amstelzijde 53

Praq - for Families with Kids
The children’s restaurant in Oudekerk, where the kids can eat of the floors (as they are cleaned ten times a day). I have had three great dinners here (without kids in the non-kiddie section); I loved the bread, pizza and the catch of the day. However, reading other reviews it seems that not everyone is as happy about the service and food. What are your experiences? Praq, Amstelzijde 37

De Voetangel - Just like Home
Set in a 17th century ‘pay’ house, De Voetangel is most homey with unpretentiously friendly staff. The food is simple, not very surprising, yet tasty and fresh. They mainly use seasonal products, which I personally always value. De Voetangel, Ronde Hoep Oost 3

Klein Paardenburg - Chic Dining on the Amstel
Great culinary dining along the river Amstel. Beautiful dishes with daring flavours. Wine menu is impressive, yet the table spacing less (it is hard not to overhear your neighbours). Prices reflect the culinary standards: high. Klein Paardenburg, Amstelzijde 59

Lute - Fabulous Setting
Set in a former artistically renovated spice-factory, Lute guarantees a lively dining experience. The ambiance is always gezellig. The food is sometimes ‘superb’ and sometimes ‘good, but not special’. Also service can be so-so. My recommendation: go to Lute to enjoy a dinner in a unique setting with a superb ambiance. Lute, De Oude Molen 5
